KSJ Legal at Pakistan International Disputes Weekend 2024

Pakistan International Disputes Weekend (PIDW) is Asia’s premier legal and industrial convention that took place on the 11th and 12th of May 2024 at Pearl Continental, Karachi. PIDW transcends the conventional boundaries of a ‘legal event’, and is world-recognized as an international symbol for ‘reviewing, reflecting, and reviving’ the global dispute terrain. The forum builds on its legacy to promote the cultivation of meaningful industry connections through networking, facilitating individuals and organizations for ‘business matchmaking’, i.e. helping explore transnational business opportunities and ensuring that attendees remain abreast of global best practices through knowledge exchange by specialized panel discussions. Our presence at the PIDW was to engage in discussions and conversations around the role of family courts in mediating between contesting parties usually spouses in matters of divorce and custody.

“48,000 cases pending before the District Courts out of which 18,000 are family matters”, said Justice Junaid Ghaffar of the Honorable High Court of Sindh Karachi in a panel titled “Mediation is the New Black”.

Understanding the importance of mediation, KSJ Legal refers its clients to the right facilitators the likes of which are Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR) and IBA Dispute Resolution Forum (IBA-DRF) that provide a peaceful resolution to family disputes. This aligns with our firm’s vision of creating happy families and individuals. Moreover, at PIDW our team advocated for family judges to be more prone to activating 89A Civil Procedure Code in order for family disputes to be referred to mediation. However, several structural, systematic, administrative and social issues exist in implementing this method in strenuous litigation where parties are at loggerheads.
